Dubbed the Green Man for his commitment to sustainable practices, Matthias is a model ofgreen living. He resides in Malaysia without a car and has an enviable electricity bill of underRM40 (USD 10) a month. In 2008, Matthias was voted ‘Greenest Person on the Planet’ inan online competition by 3rd Whale in Canada. That same year, he also started Eco WarriorsMalaysia, a community movement focused on taking positive action to combat climatechange. In 2016, Matthias received the Green Icon of the Year award by the Asia PacificCSR Council. During the same year, he was the chief judge of Miss Earth Philippines andone of the judges of the global final of Miss Earth 2016.
Subsequent to graduating with a Master Degree in Environmental Science majoring inManagement and Legislation from Brunel University in the UK, Matthias went on to start asuccessful environmental consulting company in 1999. In 2007, he co-founded MalekiGmbH, a German company specializing in high performance, low carbon footprintconstruction materials. He served for 4 years as a Board Member of Solexel Malaysia Sdn.Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Solexel Inc. based in Silicon Valley, California until theend of 2016.
Matthias has authored his book, The GreenMan’s Guide of Green Living and Working; whilemore recently initiated the built of the “GreenMan Tiny Home” off grid and ecologicalsustainable living unit the size of a carpark lot in Kuala Lumpur.
An energetic and passionate speaker on environmental issues, Matthias’ mission is toinspire people to make a positive and permanent change towards living and workingsustainably. He has spoken at conferences and corporate events in at least 40 countries forvarious businesses and government organisations, and at schools across the South EastAsian region.
